Whenever I think of Lavender fields, I always think of Provence in France. Everyone thinks of Provence. Who doesn't think of Provence!? Now that the European summer has truly commenced, my Instagram feed is flooded with beautiful, candid photos within the fields. Style and travel bloggers take perfectly stylised images in the latest ready-to-wear fashions. It's every girls dream to imitate one of these photos! Today, I achieved that dream...in England...in my ripped jeans, reeboks and basic tee. Sahhh fashion forward!
Soooo, turns out there are quite a few lavender farms in England. Who knew!? Not me. If you have read my One Monthiversary In London, you will know that I am part of a Facebook group called London New Girl. Well, it was within this group that I saw a post asking if any girls were interested in a cruisey Saturday walk to a Lavender farm in Kent. I thought, YAS, the perfect way to get those Instagrammable Lavender photos less than hour out of London. And what a day it was! Honestly, it was such a great day; walking, lavender, photos, wine and good company!
It was Saturday morning, and myself and around 30 other girls met in Shoreham, Kent. Knowing absolutely no one at this event, I was somewhat nervous meeting new people. It's a nerve wracking thing at 26. You have your life set up in one place and when you move to a new home, you have to create a new life, which includes making friends. But you just have to put yourself out there!
As we walked through cutest and most picturesque village, I knew that every local hated us. Can you imagine? Thirty girls with cameras and backpacks walking through your quite little village on a Saturday morning taking photos of houses, pubs, streets etc? I know that would annoy me. But everything just looked so idillic, I don't think we really cared if we bothered them, haha! Venturing up a hill, we stopped to take in an absolutely breathtaking view of the English countryside. Honestly, photos don't do it justice, but here they are.
The journey for the next 45 minutes consisted of walking along the hillside, through another little village, followed by more of the beautiful English countryside.
Red Poppies! I have never seen a real poppies before. Only the plastic ones you buy for $2. These poppies were scattered throughout the wheat fields...a pop of colour.
As we arrived at Castle Farm, I couldn't help but indulge myself in taking "macro" photos with my camera, so excuse the up close flower images above. Castle Farm, found near Shoreham, Kent, grows and sells many things besides Lavender; beef, apples, dried flowers and hops. We took a guided tour of the infamous Lavender fields and found out some interesting information. There are two types of the plant; Lavender, for relaxation and Lavandin, for energising. We came at a good time - next week, all of the Lavender will be harvested. So I made sure I took many, many photos.
Note: these are only a handful of photos below, but you get the point. Again, excuse the lack of a fashion forward outfit. I knew we were walking quite a bit, so I wanted to be comfortable.
